Our Mission
Our mission is to build a community-driven online platform connecting empowering voices in medicine to a global audience of aspiring trainees seeking relatable role models. By reimagining online and offline community-building, we hope to empower a new generation of visionary future leaders in medicine.
What DiverseCity means to us
Our name is very intentional, because it speaks to core pillars of our mission. Here’s how we break down what we mean by each part of our name:
Diverse
We believe the field of medicine is strengthened by a broad range of experiences. When we use the word “diverse,” we use it with the goal of creating meaningful space for the many dimensions we each may bring to medicine—including but not limited to race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, culture, career goals, pathways to medicine, backgrounds, gender identity, disability, personal interest/hobbies, among many other ways. It is not our goal to impose pre-defined categories or definitions, but instead to remain open and humble to what you want to see with this platform, to help us all re-imagine what medical pathways might look like.
CITY
The community aspect of this is very important to us. We like to think of this as a “city” because it is our collective effort to build a future of medicine that we want to see together—a place where we can all feel a sense of home. We hope to create a space where people feel welcomed to carve out and expand their own definitions of “diversity,” and welcome any further feedback or suggestions at any time.

Here are some of the values that drive us now. The way DiverseCity operates may look very different in the future than it does today, but we hope to always stay true to these principles.
Community
We cannot do this alone. In everything we do, we hope to emphasize the bonds of community that help anchor us. We also strive to help create respectful, kind, and welcoming community norms. Each of us contributes to the community we want to build together.
integrity
While there may be a pre-defined “steps” through medicine, the act of carving your own path through medicine is a deeply personal one. We hope to approach all we do on this platform through a sense of integrity and character, trying to stay true to ourselves. We also hope this platform helps remind you to stay true to yourselves.

This entire project is started by a small group of friends as a passion project and a way to explore and connect with one another, and has now expanded into more than that. We still hope to keep that spirit of playfulness and joy alive even as we move forward, and would love for you to join us in this!
